CMS ALSO USES THE CERT PROGRAM TO PERFORM SPECIAL STUDIES AND SUPPLEMENTAL MEASUREMENTS TO DETERMINE THE IMPROPER PAYMENT RATES OF PARTICULAR CLAIM TYPES. CALCULATIONS OF THESE RATES FACILITATE CMS ABILITY TO TAKE APPROPRIATE CORRECTIVE ACTIONS TO REDUCE IMPROPER PAYMENTS.
